Padlock Randomizer

Set a combination padlock to a code that nobody sees, not even you.
Padlock Randomizer is an Android app for people who want to lock something away from their future selves: a phone, a locker, a box of temptations. The app picks a random code and guides you through blind wheel turns that set it on your lock. You never see the code. It appears only after a delay you choose, or if you explicitly give up and discard the setup.

How it works

  1. Add your padlock once. Name it, choose 3–6 wheels and digits or letters, and answer a short question that tells the app which way your wheels count.
  2. Choose the settings for a run. Pick a start position, how much effort to spend (3, 5, 7 or a custom number of moves per wheel), and the reveal delay: 1 hour, 1 day, 1 week, or a custom time.
  3. Follow the steps without looking. A screen helps you re-configure your lock step-by-step. For example "Wheel 3, clockwise, 7 clicks", with a drawing of the lock. The steps are shuffled across all wheels, so working out the final code isn't practical.
  4. Start the timer. The code stays hidden until the delay is over. The countdown is always on screen when you open the app.
  5. Get your code. When the timer ends, the code can be shown.

Good to know

  • Made for thumbwheel locks. Dial locks aren't supported.
  • Nothing leaves your phone on its own apart from Android's own backup, if you enabled it. The app has no internet permission, and the code is stored encrypted on the device.
  • Optional backup file. If you want a safety net, you can save a backup file externally. It is encrypted so you can not read it. Upload it to this website to get the code back once it is due. (Recovery)
  • A self-discipline tool, not a security product. Someone who can read the app's files, or who changes the phone's clock, can get around the delay.
  • Light and dark themes, Android 8 or newer, English only for now.
